Pre-Raphaelite expert Jan Marsh joins us to discuss the acquisition of a rare portrait by Evelyn De Morgan

Evelyn De Morgan only ever made seven portraits. All depict close family members and are unique, beautiful and extremely rare. Most are in private collections meaning our understanding of De Morgan’s portraiture has, until now, been very limited.

The De Morgan Foundation is delighted to announce that it has successfully acquired “Portrait of Winifred Bulwer (cousin of the artist)” (1880) for its collection. The picture was purchased with support by Art Fund and the Arts Council England/V&A Purchase Grant Fund.

The Foundation is now raising £10,000 to prepare the painting for display. PLEASE DONATE!

In this talk, Dr Jan Marsh, a leading expert in the work of Evelyn De Morgan and her Pre-Raphaelite circle, will discuss the importance of this painting and explain why it is crucial that the Foundation can display this painting at its Cannon Hall museum.

Dr Jan Marsh is a well-known and we’ll-respected art historian, responsible for her groundbreaking work and research into the female members of the Pre-Rapaelite circle. Jan was the curator of the Pre-Raphaelite Sisters exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in 2019.
