De Morgan Archive

The De Morgan Collection

The De Morgan Foundation displays around 70-80 percent of its collection to the public, at its own De Morgan Museum in Cannon Hall, Barnsley, at partner sites around the country, in temporary exhibitions at other museums and galleries, and through temporary loans of artworks to exhibitions, nationally and internationally.

The De Morgan Archive

In addition to the ceramics, paintings, and other artworks on public display, the De Morgan Foundation holds a private archive of designs and drawings by William and Evelyn De Morgan and John Roddam Spencer Stanhope, and a range of archival material relating to the artists, their families,  and the formation of the De Morgan Foundation and the De Morgan Collection.

The De Morgan Foundation is not publicly funded.  Due to very limited resources we are unable to answer detailed enquiries from the public or researchers regarding specific archive content, nor research on their behalf.

We receive a large number of requests to visit this private facility every year.   Much of the material in our archive is very fragile, and for this reason we are unable to accommodate in-person visits, nor provide digital scans or photographs of material.

The De Morgan Foundation is unable provide an object identification service, nor advice or guidance as to the potential authenticity, provenance, or value of William De Morgan and Evelyn De Morgan artworks.
