De Morgan created multiple designs based on the same motif, by changing the background from plain, to decorative or by changing the colour. This particular tile is decorated with a ruby lustre bird with a background of grass sprigs. This tile is one of many charming designs produced by De Morgan, which were perennially popular in the late Victorian period. Typical application of these tiles would be in a nursery bathroom.
This tile is decorated on a blank tile bought from another tile manufacturer to decorate and as such it is not possible to date it specifically.
