Description:

Bedford Park is a suburban development in West London; it is a conservation area and is considered to be the world’s first garden suburb. Building started in 1875 and De Morgan supplied tiles to many of the properties in the then new development. Bedford Park Daisy and Bedford Park Anemone were patterns which he designed specifically for this project. He produced these designs in several colourways including yellow, blue and manganese (pink / brown colour) as well as ruby lustre.

These tile patterns were very popular and were produced throughout the life of the pottery, a span of some 35 years. This particular tile was made in 1898, when De Morgan was working in partnership with former employees Charles and Fred Passenger and his kiln master, Frank Iles.
