Ruby Lustre earthenware dish decorated with an antelope in a flower meadow, standing behind a fruiting tree. The antelope and fruit tree was clearly a popular motif for De Morgan. Two lizards climbing the tree are subtly created using gold lustre highlights. They would have glistened and caught the light in a Victorian room lit by gas or candle light.
The reverse of the plate is decorated with De Morgans signature concentric rings in gold and ruby lustre and marked as follows, Fulham, W.D.M. and the decorators mark C.P.
