Metamorphosis of Autumn: Boreas, Art and Myth
24th November 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
| £5As the season of change is upon us we delve into the profound exploration of transformation in Evelyn De Morgan’s depictions of Boreas, the mythical god of the North Wind.
From Ovid’s epic “Metamorphoses” to Evelyn De Morgan’s enchanting paintings, we will uncover the multifaceted nature of change, whether it evokes beauty or foreboding.
Between 1896 and 1910, De Morgan radically changed her depiction of Boreas, from gentle giant to aggressive destroyer.
In the autumn of her own life, could she have looked to significantly change the meaning of this mythical god, whose cold winds close summer and bring winter?
This talk will be delivered by Sarah Hardy, Director of the De Morgan Museum online over Zoom.
